Interaction: final reflection on the process

Interaction process:

1.- The person is connected to the world. Thanks to the new technologies, this link is instant, and the individual can receive an answer from the flux of information, in which is also an active member, giving away information.

2.- Then, a modified image is introduced in the information flux. The user is exposed to it as a part of the system. The image affects the flux itself, as it creates new desires, aims, ambitions, etc. in each participant.

3.- When the image finally reaches our individual, he starts wondering how can he adapt it to himself. By that time, other participants have already started the process, making public their thoughts, techniques and results on it.

4.- Lastly, after a research process, the person is adapted to that new unreal image. Ready to publish his own development, realizes he can go further as he needs to have a new environment that matches his new way of life/mentality/interests/etc.

5.- As the laws and regulations of the real world make it hard to develop a free adaptation, the user creates a parallel world in which he establishes all the facts that will rule it, as it is, at all, virtual reality.

Conclusion:

The insertion of these modified images that support or promote non-real ideals, in almost every single aspect of each user's life, ranging from everybody's look to the house furniture or the configuration of the city. The desire of feeling identified with them grows, using the also increasing consumerism to reach all the corners of daily events, creating new needs. In the end, the person reaches a pseudo alienation and homogenization status, despite certain mechanisms start to work, beginning creative processes that participate in the flux, providing it with new elements and turning the user into an active part as a creator.
So, we can conclude that the globalization process that takes part nowadays tends to erase most of the individual own desires and motifs, substituting them by the ones established in the flux, but at the same time, due to the natural, anthropological desires of the human being of taking part to develop something bigger, that may lead him to remembrance when his time is gone; there's also a creative part that highlights the unique elements he has, making him definitively different from anyone in the net.

Augmented Reality

Augmented City 3D from Keiichi Matsuda on Vimeo.
The architecture of the contemporary city is no longer simply
about the physical space of buildings and landscape, more and
more is about the synthetic spaces created by the digital
information that we collect, consume and organise; an immersive
interface may become as much part of the world we inhabit as
the buildings around us.

Augmented Reality os an emerging technology defined by its
ability to overlay physical space with information. It is part
of a paradigm shift that succeeds Virtual Reality; instead of
disembodied occupatio of virtual worlds, the physical and
virtual are seen together as a contiguous; layered and dynamic
whole. It may lead to a world where media is indistinguishable
implications for architecture, as we re-evaluate the city as
an immersive human-computer interface.

How images alter reality

Today, we live in the so called 'Information Society', in which every single event of the life of a person, no matter how important it is or how far that person is away from us, can be known immediately. All the information comes to us mostly by pictures and images, so our senses have become saturated, and our minds less and less able to produce an image on their own.
So, how can a modified image introduced in the flux of information change our perception and, due to this, our environment?

From bottom to top, the influence starts with a person that changes itself according to the canons established by the modified image. Designer clothes, make up, tanning sessions... It all makes the individual closer to the herd mentality.

Then this character realizes his environment is not suitable, so the change proceeds to the place that belongs (physically or spiritually) to him.

Finally, a bigger area gets involved in the process, so the city reflects the modification of the 'likes' and 'hates' of the society that lives in it.  The achievement of the ideal way of life, depicted in magazines, TV shows or movies becomes a motto, moving aside the classic values and ambitions, now considered old fashioned or naïve.

For this reasons, the next step of this research would be to trace a map of human behavior in these three stages, so in the end, we would be able to check how the modified, unreal image becomes real.

Image Flux

The use of glass in architecture allows us to establish a path, virtually jumping from one building to another, in time and space, creating an image flux that leads us from the XIXth century to a near future, in which our own work will be part of the continuous sequence of information that flows in the collective knowledge.
As long as we're able to leave an open door/window/façade... The images (that can be understood as containers that keeps feelings, experiences, moments, light, and every single perception that happens around architecture in a single 'package') cross the border of the building to be part of the world.

Cartography's evolution

The topologies

After the Metaphysic was turned down, the contemporary science schemes took control of the world. This interest in rediscovering the truth within, lead through new science theories, such as Heidegger’s theorie of Caos, with its dynamic systems. This way, new mathematic models were discovered such as: Moebius Strip and further on Klein’s bottle which both reflected the continuum (the continuous overlapping space-time). This would be carried on as ideas for new architecture, developing new abstract possibilities bearing deeply inside the idea of continuum and fluxes.

An Esthetic and Political Model of the Virtual

The improvements on technologies are also reflected in the way We represent the space. We've gone from an immovable reality, with unmodifiable limits, to another in which the only constant is the existence of the changing flux itself. It turns the cartography into a wide complex tissue that is ment to show the different aspects of existence.

New Visibilities

We have always tried to know the unknown, maps turns to be a tool to solve this, abstracting the infinite reality to make it finite and measurable, this way the problem appears when we don’t get an answer and we need to create a language of diagrams to understand what we are looking for, although sometimes can take us to new problems, and new maps in an exponential way, is a matter of reality interpretation.
