the smooth and the striated game

"The war machine was perhaps the first thing to be striated. That is
where free action in smooth space must have been conquered."
(Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari)

Although their game boards look quite similar... there is a distinctive
difference between them:

Go arranges open space and preserves possibilities.
Flow becomes constant - without destination and direction.
It territorialises and deterritorialises space.
It is strategy.

Chess divides finite space.
Movement goes from point to point.
It codes and decodes space.
It is semiology.

Chess figures are coded. They have characteristic capacities which
determine their movements, positions and confrontations.

Go-stones are stones. Simple arithmetic units with collective, anonym
function which is caused by their surroundings. They are part of a larger
arrangement and have no determined but situational characteristics.

Therefore Go is the game of connections and constellations.
